How to apply for the installation of an IMS electricity meter in Slovakia

An Intelligent Metering System (IMS) consists of a data collection center and electricity meters of the relevant category. These are also referred to as “smart meters.” IMS allows distribution companies to remotely obtain not only billing readings but also detailed information about electricity consumption or production over time.

Replacing a standard meter with an IMS meter must be arranged with the distribution company in whose distribution area the metering point is connected. Most metering points in Slovakia are connected to one of three major distribution companies: Západoslovenská distribučná, Stredoslovenská distribučná alebo Východoslovenská distribučná.

What to prepare before submitting an application

Západoslovenská distribučná (ZSD)

1. Verify that your metering point belongs to the ZSD area (the EIC code starts with 24ZZS...).
2. Open the IMS installation service on the official ZSD IMS page.
3. Fill in the form according to the type of customer.

Data typically required by ZSD

For households, the form usually includes first and last name, date of birth, phone number and email, IBAN, permanent residence address, metering point address, EIC code, meter number.

Important information for ZSD

• This is a service beyond the distributor’s legal obligation and may be subject to a fee according to the current price list.
• Implementation depends on the technical feasibility at the metering point.
• After successful activation, the metering point may be included in a monthly billing cycle.

Stredoslovenská distribučná (SSD)

SSD provides a procedure on its website under Installation of IMS at the request of the end customer.

Application process in SSD

1. Verify that your metering point belongs to the SSD area (the EIC code starts with 24ZSS...).
2. Download the Application for IMS installation form from the SSD website.
3. Complete the application as an end customer or via your electricity supplier.
4. Send the completed application by email or post.

Important information for SSD

• Installation is carried out according to the distributor’s current conditions.
• Under certain conditions, installation costs may not be charged to the applicant.
• If conditions are met, the distributor will ensure installation within the legally defined timeframe.

When SSD may reject the application

• Non-compliant connection to the distribution system
• Unsatisfactory technical condition of the metering cabinet
• Mismatch between the main circuit breaker rating and the contracted value

Východoslovenská distribučná VSD)

VSD handles IMS via its intelligent metering eShop.

Application process in VSD

1. Verify that your metering point belongs to the VSD area (the EIC code starts with 24ZVS...).
2. Log in or access the VSD eShop/portal.
3. Select the Intelligent Metering service.
4. Choose the appropriate option depending on the meter replacement timing.
